After 100,000 steps, each field is a chain of 100,000 deferred additions, the same pathology as the naive trampoline's non-key fields. On this machine, the C++ stack gives out around 65,000 deep. The trampoline with deepSeq handles the same workload without issue because it forces the entire state, not just its outer shape:
